Day of good luck and not so. Went shopping to Harrods (as you do). Someone I can't remember who wanted us to get a beanie or something with some sparkly writing on it, that she saw when she was here last year. I think we found exactly what was wanted.
Then off to Finsbury Park more souvenir hunting, to the The Arsenal, an outlet shop for some football team or sumfink. Not so lucky this time, they don't ("can't" was the reason we were given ... why?) sell what we wanted. Sorry, brother.
However, did have a bit of excitement between Harrods visit and trip to Finsbury Park. Went to see (new, relatively) Australian war memorial wall/sculpture at Hyde Park Corner. Then, across from Hyde Park trouped the cavalry under police escort. We hadn't intended to go but realising it was near the time for daily changing of the guards and we were so close we couldn't resist following them quickly to do the traditional tourist thing, so after a brisk walk through Green Park, we managed to get ouselves in the second row of people outside the palace gates.
Another marching group of guards with their band turned up from the opposite direction and marched into the palace grounds. Expecting the changing of the guard to take place soon (the oldguard was due to exit the gates where we were standing), w waited .... waited ... waited. Nothing happened for quite a few minutes, then suddenly, the gates opened, the police standing around supervising the crowd snapped to attention, and out of the palace came 3 black limousines .... one sporting the royal standard. Liz and Phil passed within feet in front of us. Had a fantastic view, even got a wave and a smile from the old fellah.
Had an enjoyable dinner at Skinners Arms around the corners. There were lots of locals having a drink after work when we arrived but by 6.30 numbers had thinned and we found a good table. Once again Greg had his favourite bangers and mash!
